RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD TO EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH ASIAN AMERICAN RECOVERY SERVICES FOR COMMUNITY-BASED ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION SERVICES AND A SOCIAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN FOCUSED ON YOUNG PEOPLE, FOR THE TERM JANUARY 1, 2008 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2009, AND INCREASING THE AGREEMENT AMOUNT BY $30,100 FOR A MAXIMUM OBLIGATION OF $255,100, WITH $5,100 NET COUNTY COST.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, The Roadmap for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention: A Guide for Community Action was accepted by this Board on June 20, 2006, and the Alcohol and Other Drug services Strategic Directions 2010 plan was accepted by this Board on November 7, 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, in December 2007 this Board approved an Agreement with Asian American Recovery Services (AARS), through Resolution 069147, to provide Community-based Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention services; and

 

WHEREAS, in the City of Pacifica, youth ages 13-18 have easy access to alcohol, a high number of drunk driving incidents, and high levels of reported binge drinking;

 

WHEREAS, in two Pacifica high schools, Terra Nova and Oceana, 40% of students state that they are able to buy their own alcohol; forty-two percent of Terra Nova 11th graders admitted to having driven drunk or been in a car with a drunk driver; and

WHEREAS, the parties wish to amend the Agreement to provide social marketing services to address the issue of underage drinking in the City of Pacifica of San Mateo County; and

 

WHEREAS, there is no change to the Agreement term of January 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, however, the Agreement amount is being increased from $225,000 by $30,100 for a maximum obligation of $255,100; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board of Supervisors has been presented the Amendment to the Agreement and has examined and approved this Amendment as to form and content and desires to enter into the Agreement:

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of this Board of Supervisors be and is hereby authorized and directed to execute said Amendment for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President’s signature thereto.
