RECOMMENDATION:

Approve a resolution accepting gifts in the amount of $4,980 from Oracle Giving; $5,000 from the San Mateo County Transit District; and $5,000 from the California Association of Realtors.

VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Leaders work together across boundaries to preserve and enhance our quality of life.

Goal: Leaders throughout the County provide the impetus for broader regional solutions in land use, housing, childcare, education, health and transportation.

BACKGROUND:

The county requires any gift of more than $2,500 to be acknowledged in writing and accepted by the Board of Supervisors.

DISCUSSION:

In July 2005, the Board made a commitment to undertake a series of community forums to inform, involve and collaborate with our many stakeholders and to more fully engage the community in the governance of the county. Each of these forums had both public and private co-sponsors; and in some instances, contributions were made to help underwrite the costs and make the programs more affordable or at no cost to the participants.

On March 3, 2008, the County conducted the forum, Globalization of our Region’s Economy: Sustaining the Competitive Edge, co-sponsored by the San Mateo County Community College District, San Mateo County Office of Education, San Mateo County Economic Development Association, San Mateo Chamber of Commerce, San Mateo County School Boards Association and the City of South San Francisco. This forum was hosted by Oracle Giving. Their in-kind contribution was $4,980.

On May 30, 2008, the County conducted the forum, Livable Communities for Successful Aging at the San Mateo Conference Center. This event was co-sponsored by the San Mateo County Health Department, Planning and Building Department, Commission on Aging and others. The San Mateo County Transit District and the California Association of Realtors each contributed $5,000 to underwrite the cost of the program.

Attached is a resolution accepting these gifts. They were acknowledged at the time of the forum and will again with a copy of your Board’s resolution.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost associated with this action. The total amount of the contributions is $14,980.
