Recommended Revision to the Salary Ordinance

Recommendation

Adopt an ordinance amending the salary ordinance and accept the report on the total number of positions in the County.

The deletion of one position, addition of one position and the salary adjustment of one position will assist departments in meeting their individual performance expectations by assuring that they have staff with the skills necessary to perform the work.

Background

Each year following budget deliberations your Board adopts the annual salary ordinance. The ordinance enacts the decisions made during budget hearings concerning the number of positions in the County service. Throughout the year, because of changes in the operating needs of departments, salary ordinance amendments are recommended that make adjustments to department staffing configurations.

Discussion

The salary ordinance changes herein represent:

deleting one position,

adding one position, and

adjusting the salary of one position.

These actions were approved for study by the County Manager's Office and the amendment has been reviewed by the County Counsel’s Office.

The specific actions are discussed in detail below.

 
 

ORGANIZATION 14000 CONTROLLER’S OFFICE

 

Action:

Add: 5% to the base pay, in addition to all other compensation, of the Assistant Controller. This adjustment will align the salary with comparable classifications in similar jurisdictions.

Explanation:

This is the addition of 5% to the base pay, in addition to all other compensation, of the Assistant Controller to align the salary with comparable classifications in similar jurisdictions. This action represents a monthly salary and benefits cost of $600.00. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.

 
 

ORGANIZATION 39000 PARKS DEPARTMENT

 

Action:

Delete: One position of L042, Gardener

Biweekly Salary: $1,894.40 – $2,368.00

Approximate Monthly Salary: $4,105.00– $5,131.00

Add: One position of L040S, Park Ranger Series

Biweekly Salary: $1,894.40 – $2,368.00

Approximate Monthly Salary: $4,105.00– $5,131.00

Explanation:

This is the deletion of one Gardener position and the addition of one Park Ranger I/II position to meet current staffing needs in the Maintenance Section, Area III. The action represents no change in the monthly salary and benefits cost. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.

 

Fiscal Impact

The add and delete actions represent a monthly salary and benefits cost of $600.00 or an annual cost of $7,200.00.
