______________________________________________________________

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, in July 2005, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors made a commitment to undertake a series of community forums to inform, involve and collaborate with our many stakeholders and to more fully engage the community in the governance of the county; and

WHEREAS, each of these forums had both public and private co-sponsors; and, in some instances, cash and in-kind contributions were made to help underwrite the costs and make the programs more affordable to all participants; and

WHEREAS, on March 3, 2008, Oracle Giving hosted the event Globalization of our Region’s Economy: Sustaining the Competitive Edge, making a generous in-kind contribution of $4,980.00 helping to ensure the participation was at no cost to the participants

WHEREAS, on May 30, 2008, the County conducted Livable Communities for Successful Aging with many community co-sponsors, including the San Mateo County Transit District and the California Association of Realtors each providing $5,000, to underwrite the cost of the forum and helping to ensure participation was at no cost to the participants; and

WHEREAS, these important community forums provide an excellent opportunity for San Mateo County residents to become more fully informed on the complex and challenging issues confronting our community and to become more engaged in problem solving through a participatory process. These collaborative forums foster greater public support for the solution strategies and give rise to new initiatives that contribute to achieving the County’s Shared Vision goals. Both public and private contributions have served to ensure broad and diverse participation at the forums.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, hereby accepts the in-kind contribution of $4,980 from Oracle Giving, $5,000 from the San Mateo County Transit District and $5,000 from the California Association of Realtors and offers its thanks for the generous contributions toward this series of important community conversations.
