RESOLUTION
AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT COVERING THE PERIOD OF AUGUST 15, 2008 THROUGH AUGUST 14, 2015
(7 YEARS) WITH ALLIED WASTE SERVICES (AWS) FOR THE OPERATION, RECOVERY, TRANSPORT, AND DISPOSAL OF SOLID WASTE, RECYCABLES, AND REUSABLES AT THE PESCADERO TRANSFER STATION (TS/MRF) FOR A MAXIMUM COST OF $340,000 PER YEAR; AND
2. AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS TO ANNUALLY ADJUST THE GATE FEES FOR THE USERS OF THE TS/MRF UP TO THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX INCREASE.

 

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the County owns the Pescadero Sanitary Landfill and adjacent transfer station that provides solid waste disposal and limited recycling options to the South Coastal area of San Mateo County: and

 

WHEREAS, the agreement with the operator of the facility will expire on August 15, 2008; and

 

WHEREAS, a request for proposals was issued and Allied Waste Services (AWS) was recommended because of its longstanding site expertise, lower annual operating costs and a proposed increase in the site’s recycling diversion over a two-year period; and

 

WHEREAS, the County desires to execute an agreement with Allied Waste Services (AWS) for operation, recovery, transport and disposal of solid waste, recyclables and reusable materials from the TS/MRF.

 

WHEREAS, this board has been presented with a form of said agreement, and has reviewed it as to form and content and desires to enter into the agreement.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that:

The President of the Board is hereby authorized to execute an agreement for seven (7) years with Allied Waste Services (AWS) for the operation, recovery, transport, and disposal of Solid Waste, Recycables, and Reusables at the Pescadero Transfer Station (TS/MRF) for a maximum County cost of $340,000 per year covering the period of August 15, 2008 through August 14, 2015. The agreement may be extended for three, one-year periods upon mutual agreement of the parties; and

The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized to annually adjust the gate fees for the users of the TS/MRF up to the Consumer Price Index increase.
