RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING

Zara G. Lozano

Upon Receiving a

2008 Erich Jenkins Memorial

Youth Advocate of the Year Scholarship

WHEREAS, Zara G. Lozano has received a 2008 Erich Jenkins Memorial Youth Advocate of the Year Scholarship, presented by the California Youth Advocacy Network, annually recognizing three California high school students for their leadership in anti-tobacco efforts; and

WHEREAS, for more than three years, Zara has participated in tobacco prevention efforts as a member of the Asian American Recovery Services’ Stay Safe Youth Coalition; and

WHEREAS, Zara has represented the Stay Safe Youth Coalition in creating strategies to reduce tobacco use as well as tobacco access, especially through the implementation of local tobacco retail licensing ordinances; and

WHEREAS, Zara’s work has resulted in members of the California State Assembly and the California State Senate signing pledges to refuse campaign donations from tobacco companies.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Zara G. Lozano upon receiving a 2008 Erich Jenkins Memorial Youth Advocate of the Year Scholarship, presented by the California Youth Advocacy Network. The Board hereby expresses its gratitude and extends to Zara sincere wishes for continued success and excellence in all future endeavors.
