Background

Platinum Select currently provides temporary staffing for radiology and diagnostic imaging at SMMC. In the last few years it has been increasingly more difficult to locate available, qualified, temporary rehabilitation staffing. Platinum Select offers temporary rehabilitation staffing.

Discussion

SMMC provides physical, occupational and speech therapy services for patients. These services are provided in three distinct areas of differing skill sets: outpatient, acute and long-term care. There are currently two vacant positions in the Rehabilitation Department. Although there has been aggressive recruitment, including full-color ads in rehabilitation magazines, there has been only one qualified application. That applicant did not have the correct skill set for the open position.

Currently, the registries with whom SMMC is contracted have been unable to provide the needed temporary staff. This has resulted in the need to send all newly referred rehabilitation patients (including those on WELL and ACE Programs) to other hospitals (Mills, Sequoia, and Seton).

Platinum Select, in addition to radiology and diagnostic imaging temporary staff, also provides temporary rehabilitation staffing and has qualified staff available for placement.

This amendment is necessary to expand the scope of work to include provision of temporary rehabilitation staff and to increase the funding by $150,000.

The contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination, and equal benefits.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved this Amendment.

Fiscal Impact

The Amendment increases the maximum amount payable under the Agreement by $150,000 to $250,000. Funds are included in SMMC’s FY2008-09 Recommended Budget. The contract term remains the same.
