COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 2091

Upon the Celebration of Its

50th Anniversary

WHEREAS, on September 9, 1958, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States granted a charter to South San Francisco Lodge 2091, which over the past 50 years, has grown to more than 600 members; and

   

WHEREAS, Lodge 2091 is a long-time participant in the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc., through which children with disabilities receive in-home speech-language therapy and physical therapy; the program also provides certified vision screening for preschool children, plus college scholarships for disabled students; and

   

WHEREAS, Lodge 2091 provides monthly recognitions for outstanding students, plus scholarships for those attending college and/or technical schools, plus Lodge 2091 remains a strong advocate for and supporter of the Project Read Trivia Challenge; Lodge 2091 also gives dictionaries to second-grade students and hosts a Spell-A-Thon competition between senior adults and elementary school pupils;

   

WHEREAS, Lodge 2091 supports veterans as well as active-duty members of the military by conducting regular collection drives so those serving overseas know they are not forgotten; Lodge 2091 also allows a local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to meet in the Elks’ facilities.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, South San Francisco Lodge 2091, upon the celebration of its 50th anniversary. The Board hereby expresses its gratitude and extends sincere wishes for at least another five decades of continuous success and excellence.
