RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WITH AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE WEST FOR THE PROVISION OF EMERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICES.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of

California, that

 

WHEREAS, Section 1797.224 of the Health and Safety Code permits local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies to create one or more exclusive operating areas (EOA) for ambulance services as long as a competitive process is utilized to select the provider; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1976, San Mateo County created a countywide EOA, with the exception of the City of South San Francisco; and

 

WHEREAS, the current contract with American Medical Response West for emergency ambulance service ends in June 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, on March 25, 2008, your Board approved the issuance of a Request for Proposals for emergency ambulance services within the County EOA; and

WHEREAS, three proposals were received in response to the Request for Proposals; and

WHEREAS, the Board has determined that, taken as a whole, the American Medical Response proposal is superior to the other submitted proposals:

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Director of the Health Department is authorized to enter into contract negotiations with American Medical Response West for the provision of emergency ambulance services within the countywide exclusive operating area.
