THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING OCTOBER 20-24, 2008 AS

NATIONAL HEALTH EDUCATION WEEK

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, it is important for San Mateo County residents to pause for a moment in our busy lives to reflect on our health and learn how to live healthier and longer lives; and

   

WHEREAS, making healthy lifestyle choices can reduce the incidence of many chronic diseases and untimely deaths impacting individuals and families across the County; and

   

WHEREAS, when individuals are provided with specific practices on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and given tips on ways to incorporate those practices in their lives, it is easier to make healthy choices; and

   

WHEREAS, health education is any combination of learning experiences designed to promote informed choices that contribute positively to the health of individuals, groups, organizations, and communities; and

 

WHEREAS, health education is an ongoing lifetime activity for all residents of San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, the Board encourages County Departments, Employees, and residents to initiate the educational, policy, and environmental changes necessary to support healthy behaviors in public and private settings to improve the quality of life for all people.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates the week of October 20-24, 2008 as National Health Education Week throughout the County and encourage all residents to recognize the important contributions they can make to promote health and prevent disease, disability, and premature death in our communities.
