SUBJECT:

Appointment to the Commission on Public Assisted Medical Care (San Mateo Health Commission)

 

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that David M. Amann be appointed to the San Mateo Health Commission. David Amann is recommended to a new position for a term that ends on June 30th, 2012, as a “representative of the business community of San Mateo County.”

Goal(s): Civic engagement -- including voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism, and participation in public discussions of important issues -- is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Commission on Public Assisted Medical Care exists to ensure the availability of health care services regardless of income.

The Commission is authorized at eleven (11) voting members, who shall either be legal residents of the County of San Mateo, or shall work for an employer whose primary place of business is located in the County of San Mateo. The members shall include: two (2) members of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors; The County Manager or his designee; a physician; four (4) public members including: 1) a beneficiary or representative of beneficiaries served by the Commission, 2) a representative of the senior and/or minority communities in San Mateo County, 3) a representative of the business community in San Mateo County, and 4) a public member at large; a representative of San Mateo Medical Center physicians; a representative of hospitals located in San Mateo County that serve members of the Health Plan of San Mateo; and a pharmacist.

 

DISCUSSION:

David Amann is a financial advisor employed with Edward Jones whose primary place of business is located in Redwood City.

David is active in the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce, currently serving as the department chair for business and government relations, as well as the Kiwanis Club.

We recommend that the Board appoint David Amann to a new position on the Commission on Public Assisted Medical Care for a term that ends on June 30th, 2012.
