PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING NOVEMBER 2008 AS | ||||
National Adoption Month | ||||

WHEREAS, San Mateo County recognizes and acknowledges the critical importance for the children and youth of the Peninsula to live in safe and health homes, supported by caring adults offering positive role models; and | ||||
WHEREAS, adoptive families provide such environments, and help create lifelong connections for foster children and youth, many of whom are unable to reunify with siblings or other relatives; and | ||||
WHEREAS, adoptive parents also provide foster children and youth with much-needed permanence, emotional guidance and a sense of self-worth vital to overcoming previous hardships and challenges; and | ||||
WHEREAS, countless adults are eligible to become adoptive parents, even if the person has a disability, of moderate income or is unmarried; and | ||||
WHEREAS, children and youth awaiting adoption as well as the adults willing to become adoptive parents need and deserve the support of their communities. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County designates November as National Adoption Month, and encourages everyone to support and learn more about adoptive families throughout the Peninsula. | ||||
