The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.
Our Employee of the Month for November 2008 is Yolanda Ayala, a Licensed Vocational Nurse, in the San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC).
|
Yolanda has been a Licensed Vocational Nurse at SMMC for more than fifteen years and consistently demonstrates both loving compassion and the highest level of nursing skill for all of her patients. She is the backbone of the Oncology Clinic, giving support, encouragement, kindness and outstanding care to the patients. Recently, when there was physician turn-over in the department, Yolanda called each one of the one hundred and twenty patients affected, letting them know of the upcoming changes and assuring them of their continued good care. She followed up on her assurances during the transition period by personally coordinating our patients’ chemotherapy with the new doctors, the Infusion center, and the pharmacy. Due to her efforts, our patients were able to continue receiving their care in a smooth and high quality manner without disruption or anxiety. She is courteous, caring, and very organized. Her supervisor states, “I truly think that she has been the one stabilizing force holding everything together during this challenging period. We also appreciate all that she does, every day, to help her co-workers, the providers, Charge Nurse and Clinic Manager.”
Over the years, Yolanda consistently receives compliments from our patients. Some unsolicited comments from patient satisfaction surveys include:
• Yolanda is " knowledgeable and caring"
• She is" very friendly and makes you feel relaxed"
• “Yolanda treats me with a lot of respect”
• She “provides excellent care".
Our County is fortunate to have Yolanda Ayala as one of its outstanding employees.
