THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

JOHN L. MALTBIE

2008 Women In County Government Mary Welch Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

WHEREAS, JOHN L. MALTBIE has been a dedicated public servant most of his adult life, building on his educational foundation of bachelor’s and master’s degrees with concentrations in public management from San Jose State University; and

WHEREAS, since 1989, San Mateo County has benefited from the expertise and experience of JOHN L. MALTBIE as he carried out the vision and goals of the Board of Supervisors; has implemented fiscal programs that have skillfully steered the County through difficult economic times; and, has built collaborative partnerships with local governments and community organizations that have resulted in improved planning and enhanced services for children, families, and individuals in our community; and

WHEREAS, since its formation in 1986, Women In County Government has taken a leadership role in removing cultural and structural barriers to women’s career development; and, since becoming County Manager, JOHN L. MALTBIE has been very supportive of the programs and goals of Women In County Government, understanding the importance of providing increased opportunities for women’s advancement through the provision of programs that enhance the talents and skills of women; and, by promoting an organizational culture that values diversity and fully uses the talents of all County employees; and

WHEREAS, as a result of the support and encouragement of JOHN L. MALTBIE, Women In County Government has evolved and grown to be inclusive of women in management and non-management positions; in offering holistic programming to all County employees; and, in providing increased awareness of the resources, talents and knowledge that qualify women for advancement,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends JOHN L. MALTBIE for his leadership, dedication and commitment and extends congratulations for being named the recipient of the 2008 Women In County Government Mary Welch Lifetime Achievement Award.
