RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING | ||||
HONORABLE GENE MULLIN | ||||

WHEREAS, GENE MULLIN has served an exemplary three terms in the California State Assembly, having been first elected on November 5, 2002, to represent the 19th District, following seven years as a South San Francisco City Councilmember, two of which he served as Mayor; and | ||||
WHEREAS, it is due to legislative term limits that GENE MULLIN leaves his seat in Sacramento and returns to private life after having created a remarkable political legacy culminating in his Chairmanship of the Assembly Committee on Education. He was the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development in 2005 and 2006. His tenure in the legislature has been marked by numerous distinctive awards including California Coalition for Children’s Health and Safety 2006 Legislator of the Year, League of California Cities 2005 Legislator of the Year, California Healthcare Institute 2005 Visionary Award, BayBio’s 2004 DiNA, the California County Boards of Education 2003 Legislator of the Year and the California School Boards Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008; and | ||||
WHEREAS, GENE MULLIN often jokes that he only won his Assembly seat due to the 11,000 students who considered him their “favorite teacher” during his 32-year career at South San Francisco High School, he has nonetheless distinguished himself as a popular legislator with over 50 bills signed into law by two governors, three resolutions enacted and areas of emphasis encompassing education, biotechnology, childcare, housing and eminent domain and retirement and public pension issues; and | ||||
WHEREAS, GENE MULLIN has established a personal, professional and political reputation for fairness, compassion, intelligence and dedication throughout his lifelong commitment to public service. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on November 20, 2008, hereby honors, commends and congratulates GENE MULLIN on a very successful legislative career. We extend our warmest regards to him, his wife Terri, his children Jennifer and Kevin and his grandsons Austin, Jonathan and Colton. | ||||
