THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

MILLS HIGH SCHOOL

50TH ANNIVERSARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, MILLS HIGH SCHOOL was first opened in 1958 on property once owned by Darius Ogden Mills, a prominent banker and businessman from Buffalo, New York and has been providing innovative and exemplary academic and extra-curricular opportunities for the students of Millbrae and the surrounding communities for the past 50 years; and

   

WHEREAS, the mission of MILLS HIGH SCHOOL is to challenge and motivate each student to achieve his or her full potential as a responsible member of our diverse community in a safe learning environment that promotes intellectual growth, health, creativity and respect for self and others; and

   

WHEREAS, MILLS HIGH SCHOOL has a rich tradition of academic excellence which has long been recognized at the county, state and national level, and has been recognized as a “California Distinguished School” and has consistently earned the highest ranking of the Academic Performance Index (API) as determined by the California Department of Education and has been recognized as one of the 500 Best High Schools in America by Newsweek Magazine’s Advance Placement Report in May 2007; and

   

WHEREAS, MILLS HIGH SCHOOL’s reputation of academic excellence is directly connected to the outstanding faculty and staff, and the success of MILLS HIGH SCHOOL students ensures their acceptance into the most prestigious colleges and universities; and

   

WHEREAS, with its remodeled facilities, MILLS HIGH SCHOOL recognizes the rich traditions created by 50 years of academic, athletic and artistic pursuits, and is now better prepared to meet the challenges of a changing educational landscape and the promise of academic and personal success for all its students.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on November 14, 2008, hereby congratulates MILLS HIGH SCHOOL on its 50th Anniversary, commends its dedication to providing the best possible education to our youth, and expresses its best wishes for many more years of academic excellence.
