PROCLAMATION
   

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING NOVEMBER 20, 2008 AS

TOM DAWDY DAY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, TOM DAWDY was born in Millbrae on November 20, 1948, the same year as the City of Millbrae’s Incorporation and is a graduate of Mills High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University in Regional Planning and Environmental Management; and

   

WHEREAS, TOM DAWDY has a distinguished record of service to our country, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force; and

   

WHEREAS, TOM DAWDY is a highly respected and accomplished member of the community and has received many awards and accolades, including the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce 2002 Business of the Year Award for Dawdy Photography Studios, which he runs with his wife Faye of 34 years, and the City of Millbrae 2002 Man of the Year Award, and was the first recipient of the Millbrae Rotary Club Lifetime Achievement Award; and

   

WHEREAS, TOM DAWDY has selflessly donated his time and services to the community, including volunteering his photography to Mills High School, the Strides for Life Colon Cancer Foundation and the City of Burlingame's Centennial Celebration; and

   

WHEREAS, TOM DAWDY is a committed public servant and leader, and has served as President of the Millbrae Rotary Club, Chair of the Millbrae Rotary Club’s Poor School Project, Chair of the City of Millbrae’s Sister City Commission, Ambassador of goodwill for the City of Millbrae to its sister city, La Serena, Chile, Chair of the kick-off event committee for Millbrae’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, has served two consecutive years as Chair of the Millbrae Man & Woman of the Year Committee and is one of the founders of the Millbrae Arts Association, and also played a major role in the establishment of the Millbrae Rotary Club Carnival for children of low-income families, as well as the “Night of the Stars” annual fundraiser for charitable causes in Millbrae.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates November 20, 2008 as TOM DAWDY DAY in recognition of TOM DAWDY’s 60th BIRTHDAY, and for his extraordinary public service, community leadership and many contributions to the County of San Mateo.
