RESOLUTION WAIVING THE REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL PROCESS AND AUTHORIZING THE HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR, UPON APPROVAL BY COUNTY COUNSEL, TO SIGN AN AMENDMENT TO THE CURRENT AGREEMENTS WITH KAISER, AETNA, BLUE SHIELD, AND PACIFICARE / SECURE HORIZONS FOR PROVISION OF HEALTH PLAN BENEFITS TO COUNTY EMPLOYEES, RETIREES AND THEIR DEPENDENTS FOR THE PERIOD FROM JANUARY 1, 2009 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2009

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the County has negotiated with its employees to provide Kaiser, Aetna, Blue Shield, and Pacificare / Secure Horizons benefits for employees, retirees and their dependents; and;

WHEREAS, the County desires to amend the agreements with Kaiser, Aetna, Blue Shield, and Pacificare / Secure Horizons to provide coverage from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009;

WHEREAS, no new health plan options have arisen which would represent less cost and less disruption of patient-physician relationships;

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors waives the Request for Proposal process and authorizes the Human Resources Director upon approval of County Counsel to sign amendments to each of the current agreements with Kaiser, Aetna, Blue Shield, and Pacificare / Secure Horizons for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo.
