VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Ensure the basic health and safety for all.

Goal 7: Maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors.

This grant application supports the commitment and goal as the funding will be used to provide an accessible unisex restroom facility for motorized and non-motorized boat ramp users as well as other visitors to the Marina.

BACKGROUND:

Previous Board Action

The Board adopted Resolution Number 068457 on January 9, 2007, which authorized the County to submit a California Department of Boating and Waterways grant application in the amount of $117,383 for the Coyote Point Marina Restroom Building Project, and authorized the Director of the Parks Department or his designee to execute in the name of the County of San Mateo all necessary applications, contracts, agreements, amendments and payment requests hereto for the purposes of securing grant funds and to implement and carry out the purposes specified in the grant application.

DISCUSSION:

The San Mateo County Department of Parks submitted a grant application to the California Department of Boating and Waterways in the amount of $117,383 for the purchase and installation of a pre-fabricated restroom building. Department of Boating and Waterways staff reviewed the grant application and recommended increasing the funding request to $146,000 which requires an authorizing resolution from the Board of Supervisors. Staff is therefore requesting that the Board authorize submission of a grant application in the amount of $146,000 to the Department of Boating and Waterways.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There will be no Net County Cost associated with this proposed project as this grant will upon approval fully fund the project. Maintenance of the newly installed Coyote Point Marina restroom building will fall under the normal activities of the Coyote Point Marina.
