TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

James C. Porter, Director of Public Works

SUBJECT:

Agreement for the Reimbursement of Certain Costs Incurred by the Broadmoor Police Protection District Associated with the School Crossing Guard Program – Daly City Area

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an agreement with the Broadmoor Police Protection District (“District”) for $40,0000 to provide reimbursement to the District for certain costs associated with the school crossing guard program during the period of July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.

VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Ensure basic health and safety for all.

Goal(s): Maintain and enhance the public safety for all residents and visitors.

Authorizing the President of the Board to execute the agreement with the District will help finance the cost of school crossing guards that assist school children in crossing streets in the unincorporated area while going to and from school.

BACKGROUND:

On June 6, 2006, the Board authorized an agreement with the Jefferson Elementary School District to reimburse the District for the cost of school crossing guards out of the half-cent sales tax for transportation. The County has similar agreements with other school districts.

DISCUSSION:

The Jefferson Elementary School District has since turned the responsibility to perform those services to the Broadmoor Police Protection District. The agreement with the school district has expired and the proposed agreement will provide the basis for reimbursing the District for services provided. The agreement is retroactive to July 1, 2008 so that it is consistent with the original agreement executed with the Jefferson District.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total estimated cost associated with reimbursing the Broadmoor Police Protection District for the school crossing guard program is approximately $40,000. Reimbursement of this cost is proposed to be funded with Half Cent Transportation Funds.

There is no impact to the General Fund.
