RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

LOREN A.N. BUDDRESS

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, LOREN BUDDRESS retired on January 2, 2009 as the Chief Probation Officer for San Mateo County after nine years of dedicated and tireless service; and

WHEREAS, LOREN BUDDRESS is a highly regarded expert in juvenile and adult probation, evidence based treatment programs proven to reduce crime, delinquency, recidivism and community victimization; and

WHEREAS, LOREN BUDDRESS, as Chief Probation Officer, was a leader in the planning and opening of the San Mateo County Youth Services Center in 2006, and played a key role in modernizing the Probation Department’s informational management systems for both the Adult and Juvenile Divisions; and

WHEREAS, LOREN BUDDRESS was appointed by Senate President, Pro Tem, Don Perata to the California Rehabilitation Oversight Board in 2007, which monitors and evaluates the rehabilitation efforts in the prison and parole system, and served as Chief U.S. Probation Officer for the Northern District of California from 1989 to 2000; and

WHEREAS, LOREN BUDDRESS has received numerous honors and awards, including the 2008 Chief Probation Officer of the Year award by the Probation Officers of California, and has authored four articles on corrections and management in “Federal Probation” and in “Corrections Today”; and

WHEREAS, LOREN BUDDRESS has dedicated his time to many professional and community activities, including serving as Bay Region Chair of the Chief Probation Officers of California, member of the California Chief’s Executive Committee and member of the Board of Directors for the Peninsula Halfway House for Women.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on January 16, 2009, hereby congratulates LOREN BUDDRESS on his retirement from the San Mateo County Probation Department after nine years of dedicated and selfless service, and extends to him its best wishes on his future endeavors.
