RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

THE CITY OF MILLBRAE’S FOURTH ANNUAL LUNAR NEW YEAR FESTIVAL

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Chinese New Year 2009 is the Year of the Ox; and

   

WHEREAS, Chinese New Year is the most important annual Chinese festival, celebrated with firecrackers, ceremonial lanterns and traditional decorations, lively displays of dragon dancing, lion dancing and other folk activities; and

   

WHEREAS, Chinese New Year celebrations include people wearing red clothes and giving children "lucky money" in red envelopes; and

   

WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae’s Lunar New Year Festival includes the Jasmine Blossom show at Mills High School and the Golden Ox parade in downtown Millbrae; and

WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae’s Lunar New Year Festival is hosted by the Millbrae Chinese community and the Millbrae Recreation Department.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on February 1, 2009, recognizes and commends the City of Millbrae’s Fourth Annual Lunar New Year Festival, and extends its best wishes to the residents of Millbrae for a joyous celebration.
