THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

SAN MATEO BOY SCOUT TROOP 42

in celebration of its 50th Year Anniversary

WHEREAS, BOY SCOUT TROOP 42 was founded in San Mateo, California in 1958 by Dr. Arnold Drucker with a charter of six registered scouts and nine adult leaders; and

   
 

WHEREAS, BOY SCOUT TROOP 42’s chartering organization was the Brotherhood of Peninsula Temple Beth El, the Temple’s men’s group, and has been continuously sponsored by them for TROOP 42’s entire 50 year existence; and

   
 

WHEREAS, since BOY SCOUT TROOP 42 was founded, over 400 San Mateo area youth have participated in its scouting program and, of these boys, 160 attained the rank of Eagle Scout (the highest rank in Boy Scouts); and

 

 

WHEREAS, BOY SCOUT TROOP 42’s impressive Eagle Scout achievement statistic has been accomplished by maintaining a focus on TROOP 42’s motto, “We Lead the Way,” and by adhering to the “boy-led” troop structure, which means that the scouts plan and run TROOP 42’s meetings, as well as plan and execute TROOP 42’s monthly outings; and

   
 

WHEREAS, along with its outdoor activities, a hallmark of BOY SCOUT TROOP 42’s programming includes service to the community, which is also a 100 to 200 hour component of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, and has included numerous service projects in the past 50 years to assist local schools, churches, city and county parks and other properties; and

   
 

WHEREAS, in its 50 year history, BOY SCOUT TROOP 42 has had 16 Scoutmasters and, currently, has 16 dedicated and committed adult leaders guiding 43 registered scouts,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends BOY SCOUT TROOP 42 for its 50 year history of leadership, dedication and commitment to the youth of our community and wishes TROOP 42 continued success in the years ahead.
