RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING
|
SUE ELLEFRITZ
|
2009 San Mateo County Arts Educator of the Year

|
|
WHEREAS, Sue Ellefritz has been an arts educator for the past 11 years having discovered her passion for teaching arts to children through volunteering with Art in Action when she was the Art Director for Apple Computer; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Sue Ellefritz has taught arts classes at St. Pius School in Redwood City since 2004 for kindergarten through eighth grade; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, in preparation of weekly art classes for 285 students, Ms. Ellefritz develops lessons based on creative expression, art history, the integration of specific grade level curriculum topics to teach a standards based art curriculum; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Sue Ellefritz challenges and encourages students to be motivated about art and reinforces this in a positive manner through praise and expansion of the students’ creativity, which touches all aspects of their lives; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Sue Ellefritz brings a variety of cultural experiences to her art lessons, including Okinawa art pals and gets students excited about literature and art projects and relates art experiences back to their prior knowledge; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Sue Ellefritz enjoys eighth graders demonstrating that they are listening to art history, kindergartners’ excitement the first time they see the primary colors mixed to create other colors, her students venturing out into local art contests and winning, and her students feeling good about their creativity and abilities in art,
|
|
|
|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends arts educator Sue Ellefritz for her passionate dedication to stimulating and developing the creative heart of children in San Mateo County.
