VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: 2

Goal(s): Civic engagement -- including voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism, and participation in public discussions of important issues -- is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.

BACKGROUND:

There are currently four vacancies on the Mental Health Advisory Board including one vacancy for a Family Member Position and one vacancy for a General Public Position.

A recruitment was conducted and serving as the Board Sub-Committee for this appointment process, we received three applications for the two positions and conducted multiple interviews. A member of the Mental Health Board joined us for these interviews. We believe that Ms. Sternbach and Mr. Johnson would be valuable additions to the Mental Health Board.

Katherine Sternbach is a resident of Foster City who is a consultant at Mercer Government Human Services Consulting involved in consulting local and state governments on management of care for special needs populations. Ms. Sternbach has an extensive background in the mental health industry including a Masters in Education in Community Mental Health Counseling. Among her many civic engagements, Ms. Sternbach serves on the Communications Committee of the American College of Mental Health Administration (AMCHA) and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the AMCHA.

Cameron Johnson is a resident of San Carlos who is a family member of a consumer of mental health services in San Mateo County. Mr. Johnson is a Product Manager at Yahoo!. Among his many civic engagements, Mr. Johnson has volunteered as an “I Have A Dream” youth mentor to elementary school students in East Palo Alto.

FISCAL IMPACT:
