SUBJECT:

Amendment to Agreement with Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District Regarding County Fire Services

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution Authorizing Execution of an Amendment to the Agreement Between the County and Mid Peninsula Regional Open Space District Regarding County Fire Service.

VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Ensure basic health and safety for all.

Goal 7: Maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors.

This amendment contributes to the goal by providing a more appropriate vehicle for use in responding to emergencies in the Coastside Protection Program area owned and managed by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:

On March 16, 2004, your Board approved an agreement with the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. The agreement called for $50,000 to be paid by the District toward the purchase of a fire engine that would be used to provide services to District owned and managed land in the Coastside Protection Program area. The County received payment according to the terms of the agreement, which required the $50,000 payment be made after the District acquired 1,000 acres of land within its new expanded boundaries. The District and County Fire have been in discussions regarding the most appropriate type of vehicle needed for the area to be protected, and are requesting that a fire emergency services rescue vehicle be purchased instead of a fire engine, given the types of calls received in the area.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None. The County has received the $50,000 which is currently in Reserves in the County Fire budget. An Appropriation Transfer Request (ATR) will be brought to the Board at a later date to appropriate these funds and remaining funds necessary to purchase the emergency services rescue vehicle after bids are received.
