SUBJECT:

Memorandum of Understanding with CNA

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution adopting a Memorandum of Understanding with the California Nurses Association (CNA).

Goal 20: Government decisions are based on careful consideration of future impact, rather than temporary relief or immediate gain.

 

DISCUSSION:

The County concluded negotiations with CNA on January 23, 2009 and the CNA membership has ratified the County’s offer. The following summarizes the major elements in the Memorandum of Understanding which covers a twenty-four month period of January 25, 2009 through January 22, 2011:

    General Salary Increases
    No salary increases were negotiated during the term of the Memorandum of Understanding, however the parties will conduct re-openers on salaries in July of 2009 and July of 2010.

    Patient Care Re-opener
    The parties will conduct discussions regarding patient care/safe staffing in July of 2009.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This contract results in no immediate cost to the County. Any wage increases proposed during the re-openers will require authorization from the Board of Supervisors.
