VISION ALIGNMENT:
Commitment: Responsive, effective and collaborative government.
Goal 20: Government decisions are based on careful consideration of future impact, rather than temporary relief or immediate gain.
Your Board’s adoption of the proposed resolution can result in a project to sustain a major building system at 455 County Center for the benefit of both the employees and the public that use this facility.
BACKGROUND:
The halon fire suppression system at 455 County Center, ISD Data Center is over 25 years old, and the replacement parts for the panel are no longer available. This could potentially pose a threat to the critical data center areas not protected by a fire protection system should a component fail. Also, the existing halon fire suppression agent is currently being phased out as an agent that depletes the ozone layer and is classified as an environmentally hazardous agent.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed project will replace the existing halon system with a new FM 200 fire suppression system. The project scope includes new piping, nozzles, controls, programming and testing. This is a design-build contract.
The upgraded FM-200 system will comply with the EPA Clean Air Act and all codes and regulations necessary to obtain a permit.
The resolution has been approved as to form by County Counsel.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The estimated construction cost of the project is $100,000-140,000 and an appropriation has been approved in the 2008/2009 Capital Projects Budget that is financed by Information Services.
