SUBJECT:

Application for Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) Funding

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution authorizing the Director of Public Works to file an application for the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) funding to finance the 2009 Resurfacing of Various Streets in Unincorporated Areas of San Mateo County Project and stating the assurance to complete the project.

Goal (7): Maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors.

 

The construction of this resurfacing project will improve the condition of the roads for the benefit of the public.

 

BACKGROUND:

On February 10, 2009, your Board adopted Resolution No. 069928 authorizing the Director of Public Works to proceed with:

 

1.

Preparing plans and specifications for the 2009 Resurfacing of Various Streets in Unincorporated Areas of San Mateo County Project funded through the Federal Economic Stimulus proposal referred to as the ARRA; and

 

2.

Advertising for bids on the said project.

 

DISCUSSION:

Plans and specifications for the work will be prepared by the Department.

 

The Resolution is in a form required by MTC. Public Works requests the Board authorize the Director of Public Works to execute and file an application with MTC.

 

The resolution has been approved as to form by County Counsel.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The 2009 Resurfacing of Various Streets in Unincorporated Areas of San Mateo County Project is estimated to cost $1,800,000, depending on the final amount awarded to the County from the ARRA. The project is proposed to be entirely financed through the ARRA.

 

There is no impact to the General Fund.
