THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATES MARCH 2009 AS
|
|
CALIFORNIA SCIENCE EDUCATION MONTH
|

|
WHEREAS, California has become a world leader in scientific discovery in the disciplines of computer and information technology, clean technology, medicine, biotechnology and environmental science; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the public to cultivate and encourage the scientific talents of all students, including those from groups that are underrepresented in science and technology, including women, minorities and persons with disabilities; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, new jobs are growing most rapidly in areas that require strong foundations in science; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, San Mateo County and the greater Bay Area is home to numerous industries that rely on a workforce with a strong science education; and
|
|
WHEREAS, San Mateo County is committed to furthering science education to students of all ages.
|
|
|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates March 2009 as CALIFORNIA SCIENCE EDUCATION MONTH, and the Board further recognizes the critical importance of science education in helping to ensure the future viability of the Peninsula.
