RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MARCH 15TH-21S T

 

NATIONAL AGRICULTURE WEEK

 

AND

PROCLAIMING MARCH 17th, 2009 AS

 

SAN MATEO COUNTY AS FRESH AS IT GETS DAY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the week of March 15-21, 2009 is recognized as NATIONAL AGRICULTURE WEEK by thousands of organizations, universities and government agencies across the country; and

   

WHEREAS, agriculture has been a major contributor to the economy of San Mateo County for over 150 years, providing an economic benefit to the county of over $600,000,000 annually; and

   

WHEREAS, the “San Mateo County – As Fresh as it Gets” program is a cooperative effort by agriculture, the fishing and hospitality industries, and County government to support and encourage consumption of local products; and

   

WHEREAS, eating locally harvested fruits, vegetables and fish promotes a healthy and sustainable community; and

   

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo convened an Agricultural Summit in 2003 which brought together over 200 community leaders, and documented the need for a marketing logo and brand for San Mateo County produce;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby proclaims March 15-21, 2009 as NATIONAL AGRICULTURE WEEK in San Mateo County and MARCH 17, 2009 as “SAN MATEO COUNTY – AS FRESH AS IT GETS” DAY and presents the new San Mateo County marketing logo and brand, and the Board further calls upon all residents to celebrate and enjoy the abundance of fresh healthy food provided by our local farmers and fishermen.
