RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING

Dennis O’Rourke

Upon his retirement after 19 years of public service

WHEREAS, Dennis O’Rourke joined the county on Jan. 2, 2002, after a dozen years with the City of Pasadena, County of Los Angeles and the City of Des Moines, Iowa, and quickly proved himself a valued member of the budget team in the County Manager’s Office; and

WHEREAS, Dennis displayed amazing stamina and an extraordinary tolerance for pain through eight county budget cycles, shepherding the spending plans of the Health Department, San Mateo Medical Center and the Children, Youth and Family Services Agency; and

WHEREAS, Dennis’ tireless contributions toward creation and implementation of the county’s Outcome Based Management program earned the Government Finance Officer Association’s coveted “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award,” highlighting San Mateo County as a statewide model for innovative budget practices; and

WHEREAS, through his own actions, Dennis continuously inspired selflessness, a team-oriented work ethic and a frightening willingness to forego food, water and sleep to ensure that the county budget and other major budget deliverables were on time and of the highest quality; and his stories about Saudi Arabia will be missed by all.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Dennis O’Rourke upon his retirement after 19 years in public service, including seven dedicated years with San Mateo County. The Board expresses its gratitude and adds sincere wishes to Dennis and his wife Noi for many years of peace, health and happiness.
