COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING

 

DUNCAN MACLEAN

2009 SAN MATEO COUNTY FARMER OF THE YEAR

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Duncan MacLean was born in Pensacola Florida and after living abroad moved to Chula Vista attending high school there before enrolling at Sonoma State University; and

   

WHEREAS, during his senior year at Sonoma State University, Duncan MacLean first went commercial fishing in Bodega Bay and never looked back; and

   

WHEREAS, in 1973, Duncan MacLean purchased his first commercial fishing boat and fished for salmon and then expanded in to crabbing and proceeded to purchase a second commercial fishing boat in 1980 called the Clara III; and

WHEREAS, in the late 1980’s, Duncan MacLean became involved with the Pacific Coast Federated Fishing Association, the Salmon Council, Crab Association and the Half Moon Bay Fisherman’s Marketing Association; and

WHEREAS, in the Spring of 2008, Duncan MacLean met with government officials in Washington D.C. to try to protect our fishermen’s continued right to fish; and

   

WHEREAS, Duncan MacLean has always believed in protecting the fisheries and their resources while fishing the ocean the old fashioned way, idling at 7 miles per hour using barb-less hooks and line.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby recognize and congratulate Duncan MacLean on his hard work and the success of his commercial fishing business, and gives its thanks to his commitment to the community and Coastside fishing.
