THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
WHEREAS, the American Hospital Association has proclaimed May 10-16, 2009 as National Hospital Week, a celebration that began in 1921 as an effort to encourage more Americans to rely on the care provided at health care facilities; and
WHEREAS, this year’s theme, “A Healthy Commitment in Changing Times,” is a fitting tribute to our nation’s hospitals and their dedicated staffs of health care professionals, and we should all recognize the outstanding service provided by these health care workers, volunteers and other professionals who are committed to providing high-quality care to communities throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, hospitals play a vital role in our health care system by being at the forefront of diagnosing, understanding, treating, curing and preventing disease, which includes everything from groundbreaking research in new therapies to advancing new technologies in patient care, and these continuing improvements in medical care have helped patients recover faster from injuries and sickness while allowing many people to live happier and healthier lives; and
WHEREAS, all of the hospitals in San Mateo County, including San Mateo Medical Center, ensure high-quality, safe, comprehensive care to all the people in our community, from life saving surgeries to routine physicals, and deserve universal regard and appreciation for keeping our community healthy,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County hereby designates the week of May 10-16, 2009 NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK and urges every member of our community to put forth their expressions of gratitude and applaud the health care workers in our community.
