RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ASSEMBLY BILL 84 (HILL),
VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
|
|
WHEREAS, under current law elections officials must establish procedures that allow a vote by mail voter to find out if their ballot was counted, and if not, why not; and
|
|
WHEREAS, voting by mail has increased significantly over the past few years as a convenient method of voting, and
|
|
WHEREAS, safeguards built into the method of voting included requiring elections officials to verify the signature on a vote by mail envelope with the signature on the voter’s registration card; and
|
|
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 84 (Hill) would extend vote by mail voters the same rights afforded provisional voters, by requiring local elections officials to inform voters whose vote by mail ballots are not counted the reason why affording them the opportunity to take corrective action.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports Assembly Bill 84 (Hill) regarding vote by mail ballots.
