RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD TO EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH KAISER FOUNDATION HOSPITALS TO PROVIDE HOSPITAL SERVICES, EXTENDING THE TERM BY FIVE MONTHS THROUGH MARCH 31, 2009

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, on November 1, 2005 the County Manager approved an Agreement with Kaiser Foundation Hospitals (Kaiser) to provide hospital services to Kaiser patients for a term of November 1, 2005 through October 31, 2008, for an amount not to exceed $100,000; and

WHEREAS, Kaiser has consistently paid San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) in excess of $500,000 each fiscal year during the term of this Agreement; and

WHEREAS, Kaiser and SMMC are actively negotiating for a new Hospital Services Agreement; and

WHEREAS, Kaiser has submitted an Amendment to extend the current Agreement with SMMC by five months through March 31, 2009 which will allow for payment of monies owed SMMC and to allow time for continued negotiations; and

WHEREAS, both parties wish to amend the Agreement extending the term of the contract; and

WHEREAS, the Board has considered the Amendment and approved it as to both form and content and desires to enter into it.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of the Board of Supervisors be, and is hereby authorized and directed to execute said Amendment for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President’s signature thereto.
