TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Adrienne J. Tissier

SUBJECT:

Appointment to the Arts Commission

RECOMMENDATION:

Appoint Lisa Steel of Broadmoor as a member of the Arts Commission. If approved, this appointment of Ms. Steel to the 5th District’s seat would be for a partial term expiring January 5, 2013.

BACKGROUND:

The 5th District’s seat on the Arts Commission became open in April 2009, when then-Commissioner Susan Salamy of Daly City informed the commission of her resignation because she had moved out of District 5. Ms. Salamy was first appointed in January 2008 to a partial term, and re-appointed in January 2009 to a full term.

Lisa Steel is a resident of Broadmoor and works as a professional photographer, with experience in the entertainment industry as well as broadcast journalism. She currently is doing contract work for the US Census Bureau, while donating personal time and resources to various nonprofit organizations, including the World Wildlife Fund, Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Ms. Steel holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of Denver and an MBA from Golden Gate University.

I believe Ms. Steel’s background as an artist and strong sense of community will be assets to the commission as well as the county as a whole.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.
