RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Peter Jensen

Upon His Retirement After

33 Years at Junipero Serra High School

WHEREAS, Peter Jensen is a native of the City of San Mateo and proud alumnus of St. Gregory School and Hillsdale High School, where he was a three-sport athlete and named the 1968 Athlete of the Year; and

   

WHEREAS, Pete played baseball for College of San Mateo and for California State University, San Jose, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and biology; and

   

WHEREAS, in fall 1976, Pete joined the faculty of Junipero Serra High School as a coach for junior varsity and varsity football and junior varsity and varsity baseball; Pete also served as Serra’s athletic director from 1977 to 1980; in addition, Pete taught PE, architectural design, algebra, world history and typing; and

   

WHEREAS, under Pete’s guidance as head varsity baseball coach, the Serra Padres have amassed more than 550 wins, plus 13 West Catholic Athletic League titles, three Central Coast Section titles and two California state championships; and

   

WHEREAS, Pete has coached more than 320 Serra baseball players, with approximately 150 moving on to college-level baseball and 23 signing professional contracts; Pete coached at Archbishop Mitty High School, and at College of San Mateo; he also served as a scout for the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners organizations; and

   

WHEREAS, in 1991, Pete was named California State Coach of the Year and Baseball Coaches of America District 8 Coach of the Year; he was the 1997 Central Coast Section Honor Coach for baseball; and a 2008 inductee into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Peter Jensen upon his retirement after 33 dedicated years at Junipero Serra High School, helping shape the futures of thousands of young men. The Board expresses its gratitude and extends sincere wishes to Pete and his family for many more years of continuous peace, health and happiness.
