WHEREAS, on Feb. 20, 1949, the Community Presbyterian Church of Broadmoor first opened for worship and morning Sunday school; guests that day included representatives of the San Francisco Presbytery; and
WHEREAS, three months later, on May 22, 1949, the San Francisco Presbytery formally organized and recognized the Quonset hut sanctuary on its 87th Street knoll, with the Rev. John Glasse as the founding pastor; and
WHEREAS, on Palm Sunday 1952, the congregation gathered to worship in the basement of a new building, which replaced the metal-skinned Quonset and doubled as a social hall and as the 87th Street Annex of Garden Village School; and
WHEREAS, dissatisfied with its basement home, the congregation pushed for and received approval to build a “real sanctuary,” complete with a steeple, finished in time for Palm Sunday services, April 14, 1957; and
WHEREAS, over the years, through all the physical changes and updates for the church, the congregation has held steadfast as an integral part of the Broadmoor community, serving as a focal point during good times and otherwise; and
WHEREAS, while the flowers and farmers are gone, and the fields smoothed, the church remains a center for worship, education, leadership and community spirit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Broadmoor Presbyterian Church upon the celebration of its 60th anniversary. The Board expresses its gratitude to congregants past and present, and extends sincere wishes for at least another 60 years of service “Where Love Shines Through the Fog.”
