RESOLUTION APPROVING SAN MATEO COUNTY STARS
EMPLOYEE SUGGESTION AWARDS

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors approved a Performance Incentives Program (“San Mateo County STARS”) on December 5, 2006 to recognize and reward County programs that have demonstrated outstanding customer service and program performance; and

WHEREAS, in 2008 the Green and Employee Suggestion award categories were added to the STARS Awards Program; and

 

WHEREAS, nineteen programs (for Program Performance, Customer Service and Green Awards) submitted entries for the FY 2007-08 San Mateo County STARS Award and four received STARS Awards by the Board of Supervisors on March 3, 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, one hundred twenty-two suggestions were submitted by County employees, with sixty-six of these suggestions requesting consideration for a STARS Employee Suggestion Award; and

 

WHEREAS, the County Budget Workgroups reviewed and evaluated all suggestions and identified six employee suggestions for an award, including: (1) Reduce/Eliminate printed agendas for meetings, instead utilize flip charts, white boards or electronic displays (submitted by Patrice Christensen, Health System); (2) Use direct deposit for travel and other employee reimbursements, eliminating paper checks (submitted by Jason Gordon, First 5); (3) Effectively utilize timers/light sensors on parking lot lights and adjust timers to account for day light savings time (submitted by Cathy Baker, Human Services Agency) , (4) Encourage webinar meetings instead of in-person meetings, especially for document review or canned trainings (submitted by Diana Chung, Health System); (5) Default printers to fast draft (submitted by Lorraine Guerrero, Superior Court); and (6) Increase Voluntary Time Off (VTO) options to encourage employee participation in the VTO Program (Michelle Ladcani, Human Services Agency).

 

WHEREAS, the STARS Employee Suggestion Awards recipients will each receive $50 for their suggestions.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors approve the STARS Employee Suggestion Awards.
