RESOLUTION 1) AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD TO EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH LANGUAGE LINE SERVICES, INC. TO PROVIDE INTERPRETATION SERVICES TO SAN MATEO MEDICAL CENTER FOR THE TERM DECEMBER 1, 2007 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2010, INCREASING THE FISCAL OBLIGATION BY UP TO $80,000, FOR A NEW MAXIMUM FISCAL OBLIGATION OF $140,000; AND 2) AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF THE HEALTH SYSTEM OR DESIGNEE TO EXECUITE CONTRACT AMENDMENTS WHICH MODIFY THE COUNTY’S MAXIMUM FISCAL OBLIGATION BY NO MORE THAN $25,000 (IN AGGREGATE), AND/OR MODIFY THE CONTRACT TERM AND/OR SERVICES SO LONG AS THE MODIFIED TERM OR SERVICES IS/ARE WITHIN THE CURRENT OR REVISED FISCAL PROVISIONS

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, on March 27, 2008, the Purchasing Agent approved an Agreement with Language Line Services, Inc. (Language Line) to provide interpretation services for non-English speaking and/or hearing impaired patients at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC); and

WHEREAS, the service has been so successful as to cause a dramatic increase in the number of patients accessing the system and has caused a premature depletion of funding; and

WHEREAS, the parties wish to amend the contract to increase the fiscal obligation by up to $80,000, from $60,000 to a new maximum fiscal obligation of $140,000; and

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and approval an Amendment to the Agreement, reference to which is hereby made, whereby Language Line shall provide interpretation services for the term December 1, 2007 through December 31, 2010, with the Amendment increasing the maximum fiscal obligation by $80,000, for a new maximum obligation of $140,000; and

WHEREAS, this Board considered the Amendment and has approved it as to both form and content and desires to enter into it.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of this Board of Supervisors be and is hereby authorized and directed to execute said Amendment for and on behalf o the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President’s signature thereto.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief of the Health System or designee shall be authorized to execute contract Amendments which modify the County’s maximum fiscal obligation by no more than $25,000 (in aggregate), and/or modify the contract term and/or services so long as the modified term or services is/are within the current or revised fiscal provisions.
