RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING | ||||
SHELLEY KESSLER | ||||

WHEREAS, SHELLEY KESSLER has championed workers’ rights for over three decades; and | ||||
WHEREAS, SHELLEY KESSLER was elected as the first female full-time union representative at the General Motors plant in Fremont; and | ||||
WHEREAS, SHELLEY KESSLER successfully advocated the discontinuation of lead-based solder at the General Motors plant which helped prevent blood disease, liver problems and birth defects for men and women on the assembly line; and | ||||
WHEREAS, SHELLEY KESSLER served on her Machinists Local while working as a mechanic at Westinghouse Electric and successfully fought for better protective equipment for workers handling toxic chemicals like Trichloroethylene; and | ||||
WHEREAS, SHELLEY KESSLER was a member of the Santa Clara Center for Occupational Safety and Health and served on the Board for ten years; and WHEREAS, SHELLEY KESSLER served on staff at the San Mateo County Central Labor Council for the last 23 years, serving as Executive Secretary-Treasurer since 1997 and has continue to fight for health and safety of all workers, bring healthcare access to adults, represent Labor on the Board of the United Way of the Bay Area and serves as Vice President of the California Labor Federation. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on May 7, 2009, hereby congratulates Shelley Kessler as the recipient of the Community Leadership Award at the 2009 Peninsula Coalition’s 5th Annual Community Honors Awards. | ||||
