RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

HONORABLE QUENTIN L. KOPP

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, QUENTIN L. KOPP served as a member of the City and County of San Francisco Board of Supervisors to which he was first elected in 1971, was reelected four times thereafter, and served as Board President in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1982; and

   

WHEREAS, QUENTIN L. KOPP served in the California State Senate from 1986 until 1998. In 1986, he was the first non-incumbent Independent elected to the State Senate since 1878, and his reelection in 1990 constituted the first time in California history that an Independent was re-elected to the Legislature; and

   

WHEREAS, QUENTIN L. KOPP has served as a leader on virtually every regional governmental policy-making body affecting the Bay Area, including the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Board of Directors, the County Supervisors Association of California (CSAC), the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, and also served as a member of the California Transportation Commission, the California Law Revision Commission, the Little Hoover Commission, and was appointed to California High Speed Rail Authority in 2006; and

   

WHEREAS, QUENTIN L. KOPP was appointed to the San Mateo County Superior Court in 1999 by Governor Pete Wilson and, upon his retirement in 2004, joined the Assigned Judges Program of the California Judicial Council, where he has been assigned to the San Mateo County Superior Court, with intermittent assignments throughout California.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on May 7, 2009, hereby congratulates QUENTIN L. KOPP as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 Peninsula Coalition 5th Annual Community Honors Awards.
