RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING | ||||
BARBARA PLETZ | ||||

WHEREAS, BARBARA PLETZ has served an illustrious career in health care and emergency medical services as a Nurse Manager for Scripps Memorial Hospital; a program director for the Prehospital Care Training Program at Stanford University; an EMS consultant; and a Project Director for the State of California Paramedic/EMT-II/EMT-I Written Skills and Certification Tests and San Francisco Bay Area Paramedic and Mobile Intensive Care Nurse Certification Reciprocity Project before joining the County as the EMS Administrator in 1988; and | ||||
WHEREAS, during her tenure with the San Mateo County EMS Agency, BARBARA PLETZ excelled in improving upon the EMS system by leading the way in developing a unique, award-winning, highly successful EMS model that incorporated a public-private partnership for pre-hospital care; and | ||||
WHEREAS, BARBARA PLETZ’s success is also measured by her leadership in working with hospitals to develop the County’s Trauma and Stroke Plans and working with AMR, Mental Health and law enforcement to develop the San Mateo County Mental Health Assessment and Referral Treatment Program (SMART) – all of which ensure the highest quality level of care to our community; and | ||||
WHEREAS, BARBARA PLETZ is a much sought after expert in health care and EMS who has served on local, state and national boards and commissions including the Emergency Medical Services Administrators’ Association of California (Past President), the Emergency Nurse Association (Past President – California Chapter), the American Heart Association (Past Chair – Burlingame, CA Chapter), and an appointed member of the California Commission on Emergency Medical Services; and | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County, on May 21, 2009, expresses congratulations and sincere gratitude to BARBARA PLETZ for more than twenty-one years of distinguished service to the San Mateo County Emergency Medical Services Agency. The Board hereby extends sincere wishes to her as she enters this new chapter of life in retirement. | ||||
