RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE | ||||
Daly City Community Services Center | ||||
Upon Its | ||||
40th Anniversary | ||||

WHEREAS, in 1969, the Daly City Information and Referral Center incorporated to serve low-income residents, as part of then-President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty; ensuing federal funding cuts forced the I&R Center to close in 1973; and | ||||
WHEREAS, recognizing the tremendous need for such an agency, Daly City and San Mateo County resurrected the I&R Center in February 1974 as the Daly City Community Services Center; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the center’s primary mission is to help individuals and families navigate the maze of various social and human service organizations, large and small, public and private; and | ||||
WHEREAS, through 40 years of local and state budget roller coasters, pilot projects, staff and funding cuts, programmatic changes, economic turmoil and evolutions of the region’s cultural profile, the center has maintained itself and its services; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the center serves more than 11,000 unduplicated clients yearly, with the 40-year total easily surpassing the million mark; for the communities of Daly City, Colma and Broadmoor, the center remains an unmatched resource and safety net. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates and commends the Daly City Community Services Center upon the celebration of its 40th anniversary. The Board expresses its gratitude and extends sincere wishes for at least another four decades of continuous excellence. | ||||
