Accept Donations and In-Kind Gifts in the Amount of $362,694 for FY 2008-09 from the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation and Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request in the Amount of $39,394

 

RECOMMENDATION:

1)

Adopt a resolution authorizing the County’s acceptance of donations in the amount of $323,894 and in-kind gifts in the amount of $38,800 for FY 2008-09 from the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation; and

2)

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request in the amount of $39,394.

 

VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Preserve and provide people access to our natural environment.

Goals 14 and 15: Important natural resources are preserved and enhanced through environmental stewardship. Residents have nearby access to green space, such as parks and recreational opportunities.

 

These donations and in-kind gifts contribute to these goals with funding that contributes both to interpretation and environmental stewardship and facility maintenance and improvement.

 

BACKGROUND:

Since its inception in 1998, the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation has raised or received pledges for nearly $10 million in funds for various park improvements. The San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the proposed donations and in-kind gifts from the Foundation for FY 2008-09 at their May 7, 2009 meeting and unanimously approved recommending acceptance to the Board of Supervisors.

 

DISCUSSION:

For FY 2008-09, the Foundation raised $323,894 in cash donations for the Parks Department and in-kind gifts of $38,800 as outlined here.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no significant impact on the County Parks budget or the County’s Net Cost. Annual funding for the Parks Department’s Volunteer Program comes primarily from the General Fund. The annual contribution from the Foundation supplements the County’s funding to enhance the Program.
