RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

ELLEN SWEETIN

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, ELLEN SWEETIN has served an illustrious career as Coordinator of High Risk Women’s Program for the HIV Education and Prevention Program, Coordinator of HIV Program, Manager for Communicable Disease, Chief Deputy Registrar for Vital Statistics, Clinics Manager and STD/HIV Program (formerly the AIDS Program) Director; and

   

WHEREAS, during her tenure with the County of San Mateo Health System, ELLEN SWEETIN excelled in helping create, plan, implement and continuously improve all HIV/AIDS-related programs and services for San Mateo County and led the way in developing a unique, nationally recognized, highly successful HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention model that serves the people of San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, ELLEN SWEETIN has consistently been a strong advocate and champion for the care and treatment of all people living with HIV/AIDS in San Mateo County and beyond, doing her best to preserve and improve programs and services, sometimes in the face of diminishing resources, while quietly and effectively fighting stigma and ignorance; and

   

WHEREAS, ELLEN SWEETIN is a much sought after expert and leader in all areas of HIV/AIDS testing, prevention and care who has served on local, regional and state boards and commissions including the Northern California and Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ, United Way, Women in County Government, California HIV Planning Group, the San Mateo County HIV/AIDS Program Community Board, the San Francisco HIV Health Services Planning Council which serves the counties of San Mateo, San Francisco and Marin, and the Points of Integration Committee which addresses the prevention and care continuum for these three counties; and

   

WHEREAS, ELLEN SWEETIN has been an exceptional advisor and mentor to her peers, staff and members of the community in the planning, development, implementation and continuous improvement of HIV/AIDS programs and services and has been recognized for her achievements by the United Church of Christ for AIDS Work and San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on July 8, 2009, hereby expresses congratulations and sincere gratitude to ELLEN SWEETIN for more than twenty years of distinguished service to the County of San Mateo Health System Public Health Programs, and furthermore extends its best wishes to her as she enters this new chapter of her life in retirement.
