RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING REMOVAL OF THE CROSSWALK AND PROHIBITING PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS ON SANTA CRUZ AVENUE AT PALO ALTO WAY, MENLO PARK AREA

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code sections 21100(d) and 21106 (b) provide that local authorities may, by resolution, regulate traffic by means of official traffic control devices, and may install signs prohibiting pedestrian crossing at indicated crosswalks; and

WHEREAS, a crosswalk exists in the unincorporated area of the County in the West Menlo Area on Santa Cruz Avenue at the intersection of Palo Alto Way; and

WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code Section 21950.5 provides that an existing crosswalk may not be removed unless notice and opportunity to be heard is provided to the public not less than 30 days prior to the scheduled date of removal, that in addition to any other public notice requirements, the notice of proposed removal has been posted at the crosswalk identified for removal, and that the notice required by subdivision (a) shall include, but is not limited to, notification that the public may provide input relating to the scheduled removal, and the form and method of providing the input; and;

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has directed that the public be noticed 30 days in advance of the proposed removal and notice has been given and posted in accordance with section 21950.5; and

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has recommended that the crosswalk on Santa Cruz Avenue at Palo Alto Way be removed as noted herein; and

WHEREAS, this Board has reviewed and concurs in the recommendation of the Director of Public Works.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that:

A No Pedestrian Crossing Zone is established at the following location:

•

Santa Cruz Avenue (County Road No. 70A), West Menlo Area

On Santa Cruz Avenue at the intersection of Palo Alto Way remove the crosswalk and restrict pedestrian access.

2.

The crosswalk located at the above mentioned location shall be removed on or after July 15, 2009.
