THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER, 2009 AS | ||||
RECOVERY HAPPENS MONTH | ||||
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * | ||||
WHEREAS, the month of September 2009 is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month; and | ||||
WHEREAS, substance abuse and co-occurring mental disorders and physical illnesses are major public health problems that affect people of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds in all communities, and have a tremendous medical economic, and societal cost; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the substance abuse treatment and prevention providers of San Mateo County have dedicated themselves to the recovery process and to the education of the public about alcoholism, drug dependence, co-occurring disorders and other treatment issues; and | ||||
WHEREAS, everyday, in San Mateo County, men, women, and youth enter treatment for substance abuse and begin the road to recovery; and | ||||
WHEREAS, persons in recovery lead sober, productive lives as workers, students, parents, citizens, and taxpayers as a direct result of prevention, treatment, and recovery services; and | ||||
WHEREAS, acknowledging these efforts in September 2009 offers advocates of recovery an opportunity to educate the public and policymakers about the effectiveness of treatment and prevention; | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby declares the month of September 2009 as “Recovery Happens Month” in San Mateo County highlighted by this year’s theme, "together we learn, together we heal." | ||||
