RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ASSEMBLY BILL 249 (CARTER),

HEALTH FACILITIES: MARKING PATIENT DEVICES

______________________________________________________________

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, under current law long-term care convalescent care facilities and hospitals must institute theft and loss programs that include a written patient personal property inventory upon admission that is retained during the resident’s stay in the long-term care facility; and

WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 249 (Carter) would require a patient’s written personal inventory in long-term care facilities to include a listing, by a unique identification number, of all patient-owned mobility hearing, or breathing equipment; and

WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 249 would also require long-term care facilities, at the request of the resident, the resident’s family, to assign a unique identification number and place a tag with that number on the item if it would not cause permanent damage to the item.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports Assembly Bill 249 (Carter) regarding marking patient devices.
